Herb Freed's Graduation Day is exactly the kind of film that reminds you why the early 1980s were such a golden era for the genre — low budget, gloriously cheesy, and an absolute blast from start to finish. We dig into what makes this film work so perfectly as a product of its time despite all of its rough edges, and the bizarre creative decision to set a high school slasher almost entirely in the woods instead of, you know, the high school. We also get into the hilariously negligent faculty who seem remarkably unbothered by their students dropping like flies, the strange and uncomfortable family dynamic between Anne, her mother, and her hateful stepfather, and a killer reveal that genuinely delivers when it counts.
