Which is more brutal — the original or the remake? This week on the Grindhouse Syndicate we are taking on one of the most controversial and divisive films in horror history with a Remake vs Original showdown. We are putting Meir Zarchi's 1978 exploitation classic I Spit on Your Grave head to head against Steven R. Monroe's 2010 remake to see how these two films stack up. We dig into the differences in pacing and story structure, how the four main antagonists were reimagined in the remake, and the addition of the corrupt sheriff character that gives the 2010 version a whole different dynamic. We also get into the massive cultural impact of the original film — a movie so raw and uncompromising that it was banned or heavily censored in countries around the world — and talk honestly about how both films handle the weight of their sexual assault scenes and what separates exploitation from something more intentional.
